IIW Website Redesign
As a group project for Interface Design, a client (CEO of the International Institute of Wisconsin) came in a spoke to us about their likes and dislikes about their website and wanted us to redesign their website with creative freedom. The project was created using Adobe XD.
Before we started prototyping or developing webpages, we went through the whole website to see what we liked and disliked. We noticed that there were hierarchy issues within the website; Some of the text were different fonts and were bolded without order and when it did not make sense and it made it difficult to understand what was happening on the website. As well, not all information on the website was easily available. Users had to go through very specific and difficult steps to reach their desired destination. There were issues with their links, as some of the links would take the users no where and others created a loop and bring you back to your current page. There were also visibility issues with the website as it had light green text and green link on a white background .
Before we started prototyping the website, we wanted to write out who would be using the website and how it would be used by those users. After hearing Mr. Curry talk about how the IIW website is used and what they use it for, we had the information we needed to start brainstorming ideas. We wanted to keep the overall style of the current website as we thought it was unique and fit their brand. We wanted to simplify the website as there was a lot going on with the three different header colors on the homepage (the gray, blue and green), we wanted to condense relevant information and have them on certain pages rather than being spread out over multiple pages. We planned on combining the staff and board of directors page to reduce the amount of pages. We also wanted each page to clearly present its purpose to the users so that they are not confused nor overwhelmed by the information on the page.
The project allowed me and my group mates to have real world experience working with a client and receiving their feedback to create a product that they would be satisfied.
